On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

The Top 7 received a standing ovation from the in-house crowd as they stepped out onto the American Idol stage, and the show was off to an energetic start for the Wednesday performance round. The theme of the night was Songs of the 21st Century, which gave the Idols a wide range of recent music to select.

But before they could perform, the ousted Idols opened the show with “So What.” The group included Naima Adedapo, Ashton Jones, Karen Rodriguez, Thia Megia and the show’s two most recently eliminated contenders, Pia Toscano and Paul McDonald. The women paraded out first and mostly sounded horrible, but they put plenty of attitude into the performance. Paul McDonald walked out on stage to join them wearing his embellished, sparkling black suit. You can see it all in the video at the top.

American Idol

American Idol’s Top 7 will put this week’s elimination behind them and move forward -- and next week’s theme will help them to do it.

The Idols will be crooning Songs from the 21st Century, so they’ve got about 11 years’ worth of music to pick from. The list includes Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Cee Lo... and lots of other artists Glee has already covered.

Mover than 53 million votes were recorded after American Idol’s Tuesday performance round, but one of the Top 8 failed to score a big enough share to survive the night.

Before any results were revealed, Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina again paired up to deliver a duet of “American Honey,” originally by Lady Antebellum. They sound wonderful together, and the number was perfect. They’ll be performing a lot of duets together over the summer, when they both go out on the Idol tour.

The week’s Ford music video followed, a rather fun combination of cars and zombies. Watch all this year’s music video at Albumista.

American Idol 10

Tuesday’s American Idol opened with a re-cap of Pia Toscano’s surprising elimination, which caused a Twitter flurry and upset the three judges last week. But this week, she’s gone -- for better or worse. And the Top 8 performers carried on without her, because Idol’s show must go on.

The show took time to pay tribute to J-Lo, who has just been named as People’s Most Beautiful Woman. Perhaps it’s appropriate that she be celebrated on the show -- it’s Movie Week on Idol. And that doesn’t meant show tunes… it means soundtracks.

As we reported, Ashley Kauffman came forward recently to talk about being moved from her front-row American Idol seat because she was deemed “too heavy.” She talks about her experience to ABC in the video above. Now, the show has responded -- and they’re denying her claims.

Manfred Westphal, spokesman for Fremantle Media (the company that produces Idol), says that Kauffman’s statements are “simply untrue.”

Ashley KauffmanAshley Kauffman, 19, says she was kicked out of the front row of American Idol recently. Two staffers approached her and one said “Oh no, you’re too big, too heavy to be in front!” Kauffman, a college student, and 5 of her girlfriends had received free tickets to the live show from friends who found themselves unable to attend.

Kauffman, excited about her unexpected good fortune, went out shopping to buy a brand-new outfit. “I didn’t think I looked too bad,” she told the Daily Mail UK. Rather than the front-row seats they were ticketed to have, Ashley and two of her friends were moved to the back of the theater.

She weighs around 150 and stands at 5’2”, and while it’s not likely she’ll walk a runway in Milan, Kauffman is by no means obese. She admitted to being hurt by the treatment she received at the show; she’s speaking out because she wants an apology from Idol, and she wants to prevent other women from suffering the same fate.

Pia Toscano eliminated - American Idol 10

Pia Toscano was so overwhelmed by her ninth-place American Idol elimination, she had to be led off stage by a medic. She’s feeling much better now… but, we can’t say the same for the celebs who have been following her on Twitter. Her early exit has sparked outrage from some of the most surprising sources.

“Don’t have an IDOL habit, but how could the USA vote Pia off?” Tom Hanks tweeted. “I may be done for the season! HANX”

“Are you watching Idol? I am shocked and so sad,” said one-season judge Ellen DeGeneres.

American Idol’s Top 9 opened the Thursday results show with a mash-up of Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock n Roll” and Lynyrd Skynard's “Sweet Home Alabama,” not their best group number of the season. It did, however, fit the week’s theme: the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

The week’s Ford music video was next, a sleek production set to the strains of “Love Gun.” Watch all the music videos at Albumista.

American Idol gave viewers an energetic opening to Wednesday’s performance night. Gwen Stefani worked on the show for the week, dressing all the female contenders in her clothing line in a bit of cross-promotion courtesy of FOX. The week’s theme was dedicated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Idol’s new judge Steven Tyler is a recent inductee into the Hall.

Black Eyed Pea will.i.am helped coach contestant, some of whom were bound to have big trouble with a rock n roll theme.
